Yamaha Dtxtreme Special

Yamaha Dtxtreme Special

Yamaha has done it again. I mean, I did not think it was possible to out do the very impressive DTXtreme III Standard electronic drum kit, but they did. They have raised the bar even higher and now other electronic drum manufacturers are going to have to try really hard to catch up.

The DTXtreme III Special has everything that the standard kits does and more. You still get 50 preprogrammed drum kits, the ability to create 50 kits on your own from over 1000 different drum, percussion and special effects. So what is the difference? The DTXtreme III Special has some hardware that can't be found on the standard kit.

The Yamaha DTXtreme III Special electronic drum kit comes with a three zone snare pad, 4 three zone tom pads, 2 three zone cymbal pads, 1 three zone ride cymbal, the RHH135 hi hat and the KP125 kick drum trigger.

The tom and snare pads have on board controls that let you change things like tension and pitch on the fly. The cymbal pads are touch sensitive and choke when you grab the edges. The hi hat pad attaches to the hi hat stand and moves up and down juts like an acoustic hi hat would. The hi hat pad is pressure sensitive so the pitch changes when you push on the pedal. the kick drum pad has a large playing surface and feels morel like an acoustic kick drum. The kick drum pad is held securely in place so even the hardest hitting drummers won't make it budge.

With a set of pads like that, your going to need one heck of frame to mount it all on and Yamaha did not disappoint with the frame for the DTXtreme III Special. The frame was originally designed for acoustic drums so it is very sturdy. It's being labeled the HEXRACK due to the shape of the hexagonal tubing. The tom clamps rotate on a synthetic ball. All of the clamps allow very minute adjustments allowing you to position the drums exactly how you want. You won't find an electric drum set that offers so many things. The DTXtreme III Special is quite simply the best electronic drum kit on the market today.
